Commercial Use & Licensing Terms

Last updated: October 17, 2025

On this page, I explain the terms under which you may use my sewing patterns for commercial purposes — what’s allowed, what isn’t, and how to obtain a license.
If anything is unclear, just send me a message. I personally respond to every inquiry.

1. Personal Use vs. Commercial Use

When you purchase one of my digital sewing patterns, you automatically receive a personal-use license.
This means you may use the pattern to create clothing or accessories for yourself, as gifts, or for any other non-commercial purpose.

Commercial use means using the pattern to create finished products for sale or to otherwise generate income.
This is only permitted with a valid commercial license.

All licenses are non-exclusive and non-transferable.
You may not resell or share the files, nor claim the pattern design as your own.

2. License Levels

I offer several commercial licensing options depending on the size and scope of your project.

The Micro License is intended for hobby sewists or very small side projects.
It allows you to produce up to ten finished pieces per year per pattern, and it’s free, as it is already included with your pattern purchase.

The Small Business License is ideal for Etsy shops, small labels, or artisan businesses with up to five people on the team. It allows up to fifty finished pieces per year per pattern. The fee for this license is €50 per year.

For growing labels or medium-sized businesses, there is the Medium Business License.
This applies to teams with more than five people or higher production volumes.
It allows up to 500 pieces per year per pattern.
Pricing is custom, depending on your production scale and business model.

Commercial use for mass production or industrial manufacturing is currently not permitted.

If you would like to use multiple patterns simultaneously or exceed the above production limits, I’m happy to provide a custom licensing offer tailored to your needs.

3. Attribution

For every commercial use, a clear credit to the pattern is required — for example, in product descriptions, social media posts, or your shop listings.
For instance:

“Made with the [Pattern Name] by Janina Gold”
or
“Design: [Pattern Name] – digital sewing pattern by Janina Gold”

4. Additional Terms

  • Adjustments such as resizing, fit changes, or minor design variations do not remove the need for a license — the original copyright remains in effect.

  • Sub-licensing or redistribution is not permitted, unless explicitly approved by me.

  • Mass production or industrial manufacturing is not allowed under any standard license.

  • If you wish to use my designs for collaborations, exclusive collections, or similar projects, please contact me for a custom agreement.

5. Breach of Terms & Termination

In case of violations of these terms:

  • The license may be revoked immediately.

  • Access to files and support may be terminated.

  • In severe cases, I reserve the right to take legal action (for example, under copyright or design law).

6. Obtaining or Upgrading a License

If you’d like to purchase a commercial license or upgrade an existing one, please send an email to:
📧 hello[at] janinagold.com

Please include the following details:

  • Your name and/or shop name

  • Your team size (if applicable)

  • The pattern(s) you’d like to use

  • Your estimated annual production quantity

I’ll get back to you as soon as possible with an offer or the appropriate license option.

7. Updates & Transparency

I update these licensing terms occasionally to ensure they remain fair and easy to understand.
The current version is always available on this page.
By purchasing or using my sewing patterns, you agree to the terms in effect at that time.
