Commercial Use & Sewing Pattern License Terms

Last updated: July 30, 2026

On this page, I explain the conditions under which you may use my sewing patterns commercially, what is permitted, what is not, and how to obtain a license.

If anything is unclear, feel free to contact me. I personally respond to every inquiry.

1. Personal Use vs. Commercial Use

  • When you purchase one of my digital sewing patterns, you automatically receive a personal-use license.

This means you may use the pattern to sew clothing or accessories for yourself, as gifts, or for other non-commercial purposes.

  • Commercial use means using a sewing pattern to create finished products for sale or otherwise using it for profit.

This is only permitted with a valid commercial license.

  • All licenses are non-exclusive and non-transferable.

You may not resell or share the pattern files or present them as your own designs.

2. License Tiers

I offer different license tiers for the commercial use of my sewing patterns, depending on the size and scope of your project.

Micro License (Personal License)

The Micro License is intended for hobby sewists and small personal projects.

It allows you to make up to 10 items per year, per sewing pattern.

This license is free, as it is already included in the purchase price of the sewing pattern.

Commercial use of my sewing patterns is not permitted under this license.

Small Business License

The Small Business License is ideal for Etsy shops, small fashion labels, and craft businesses with teams of up to five people.

It allows you to sell up to 50 finished items per year, per sewing pattern.

The license costs €50 per year.

Medium Business License

The Medium Business License is intended for growing labels and medium-sized businesses.

It applies to businesses with more than five team members or a larger production volume.

This license allows you to produce up to 500 items per year, per sewing pattern.

Pricing is determined individually based on your production volume and business concept.

Mass production and industrial manufacturing are currently not permitted.

If you would like to use multiple sewing patterns or plan to exceed the quantities listed above, feel free to contact me for a custom quote.

3. Attribution

For all commercial use, visible credit to the sewing pattern is required, for example in product descriptions, social media posts, or your online shop.

Examples:

“Made using the [Pattern Name] sewing pattern by Janina Gold”

or

“Design: [Pattern Name] – Digital sewing pattern by Janina Gold”

4. Additional Terms

  • Modifications such as resizing, fit adjustments, or minor design variations do not change the licensing requirements. Copyright protection remains in effect.

  • Sublicensing or transferring the license to others is not permitted unless I expressly agree otherwise.

  • Mass production or industrial manufacturing is not permitted under any standard license.

  • If you would like to use my sewing patterns for collaborations, exclusive collections, or similar projects, please contact me to discuss an individual agreement.

5. Breach of Terms & Termination

In the event of a violation of these terms:

  • The license may be revoked immediately.

  • Access to files and support may be terminated.

  • In serious cases, I reserve the right to take legal action, including action under applicable copyright or design laws.

6. Purchasing or Upgrading a License

If you would like to purchase a commercial license or upgrade an existing one, please email me at:

Please include the following information:

  1. Your name or shop name;

  2. Your team size, if applicable;

  3. The sewing pattern you would like to use; and

7. Updates & Transparency

I occasionally update these license terms to keep them fair and easy to understand.

You can always find the latest version on this page.
