About Janina Gold

From a Childhood Fascination to a Creative Career

Janina Gold's journey into the world of costume design began at the age of 14, inspired by the breathtaking costumes of The Lord of the Rings films. Fascinated by the intricate details, flowing silhouettes and magical worlds brought to life on screen, she taught herself how to sew using her mother's old sewing machine. What started as a teenage passion soon grew into something much greater.

After finishing school, Janina pursued a traditional apprenticeship in dressmaking, building a strong foundation in professional sewing techniques and garment construction.

Around the same time, she discovered the world of Live Action Role-Playing (LARP), which gave her even more reasons to create elaborate fantasy costumes. Her imagination flourished as she began designing garments that combined historical influences with her own fantastical aesthetic.

It was also during these early years that she created her first headpieces. Unable to find the extraordinary accessories she envisioned, she simply began making them herself - laying the foundation for what would later become one of her signature creations.

A Passion for the Stage

A turning point came in 2015 when Janina completed an internship at the renowned Residenztheater in Munich. Experiencing the world of theatrical costume production firsthand confirmed what she had already begun to suspect: costume design was not just a passion, but the career she wanted to pursue.

Over the following years, she gained valuable professional experience in costume departments, including at the Bavarian State Opera. Working in the world of theatre and opera allowed her to deepen her technical knowledge, develop her craftsmanship and experience the artistry behind elaborate stage productions.

Determined to take her creative ambitions even further, she eventually decided to pursue a BA (Bachelor of Arts) degree in design in 2019, bringing her one step closer to her dream of becoming a professional costume designer.

Building a World of Her Own

Throughout her education and professional career, Janina had already been developing her own creative business alongside her other commitments. She designed and handcrafted fantasy costumes and elaborate headpieces, sharing her work with an international audience through social media.

Over time, her distinctive designs attracted a steadily growing community of fantasy enthusiasts, cosplayers, artists and costume lovers from around the world.

By the time she graduated from her design studies in 2024, her community had grown to approximately 40,000 followers worldwide. Once she was able to dedicate herself fully to her own business, that number doubled - allowing her to turn years of passion, dedication and creativity into a thriving independent brand.

Bringing Fantasy to Life

Today, Janina Gold combines traditional dressmaking skills, professional costume experience and artistic imagination to create designs inspired by fantasy, mythology and historical aesthetics.

Her work is known for its elaborate details, dramatic silhouettes and a distinctive blend of elegance and otherworldly beauty.

In 2025, Janina took an exciting new step by making her popular costume designs available as digital sewing patterns. Through detailed PDF patterns and step-by-step tutorials, she now invites fellow sewing enthusiasts and fantasy lovers to bring their own creations to life.

The next chapter is already taking shape: her first small-batch costume collection is planned for 2026, introducing a limited selection of physical costumes for those who wish to own one of her designs without sewing it themselves.

From a 14-year-old discovering the magic of costume making at her mother's sewing machine to an independent designer sharing her creations with a worldwide community, Janina's journey has always been driven by the same belief:

Fantasy should not remain something we only dream about - it is something we can bring to life.
